 Oh, hello there. Welcome to the podcast. Thank you for dropping by the blanket fort. You know the deal. It's normally me and Emma chatting away about parenting with babies and toddlers, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. But today is a rather different, uh, special episode here in the Crippen house. We've had a sickness bug going around this last week, so we've all been down with it. Um, yeah, it is not been great. And so we've not had time to record what we hoped would be our episode on Lilly starting school and our experience and just stories and all the interesting stuff around that and getting into reception and what that's been like for us and all the challenges and the joys.

All that lot. So you've, you've got that still to look forward to. But today, uh, instead what we have managed, um, is to grab some time, uh, in between illness where we've actually recorded some conversation with Lily herself. So it's a very special debut on the podcast for our daughter, our 4-year-old daughter, Lily.

We were just gonna ask her about what uh, school was like, but in the end she ended up taking over the conversation and interviewing us about all sorts of things and just chatting away, got a bit carried away. She was in a silly mood. And so we have all this conversation recorded and we thought we'd share it with you for you to enjoy.

Just to say very quickly that, apologies, there is some microphone. Scuffling and shuffling and thumps and bumps a little bit. I've tried to edit out as much as I can, but Lily was very eager to be holding the microphone at all points and swinging it around. And to be honest, I'm amazed. It's as clear and, uh, a thing as it is, but there was no hope in in getting it and not touch the microphone.

So I just, uh, you know, it's good audio quality, but there's a few more little hiccups here and there compared to how it normally is. Consider yourself warned. This is a bonus episode to tide us over. That's probably enough from little old me here at the start. Let's, let's just get into the fun stuff.

It's your debut on the podcast. What's going on, right? Daddy, I'll ask you some questions in a second and you've gotta try and answer, okay? Right. So if you and mommy are gonna share, we wanna make sure. Um, I'll move my head here. You might just

Yeah. You could talk about that. Yeah. Okay. Right. So what's the first thing you want? Oh, what's the first question? Have you got any prepared diet? Uh, no. No. I've not thought about this at all. What's your favorite thing about school? What's the best thing at school? Mommy, don't touch it. Playing. Playing. And who's your best friend at school?

Hmm. Hmm. Alice. Alice, that's nice. Um, and can you tell 'em what were you really excited about on the first day? What did you get to eat that you really liked? I really liked beans. Beans. That's not what you said. First day it was a flop check flight. That, and you kept telling me how you mean that Flapjack was.

So your big hit the first day? Yeah. Was it that good? Yeah.

Right. And what do you do at school? Or do you just play? I do play. She tells me she doesn't learn anything. She doesn't play at school, don't you? Yeah. Yeah. Do you like your teacher? I read a book. And you read a book. Oh, that's good's Good. Who is your teacher? Mrs. Cower. Mrs. Cower there? Yeah. Yeah. Is she nice?

Yeah. And you said some people get special bands at lunch, don't they? But you don't 'cause you can eat everything. Mommy. Why are you not selling with much? Oh, I'll get closer. Is that better? Yeah. Yeah. I is well, wife. Oh, daddy's got his over there. Hello. I'm talking into this microphone. I want to shares.

Yeah, you should mind, should we move it like this? Yes. Right. Okay. Don't touch it. I want it to move to me. You want it? Oh, you want it be, oh, you want it opposite you? Do you wanna touch it? Why don't you use these bits? Oh, just don't touch the front. Is that good? Go. Yeah, go. Lola. Like Lola. And can you say, uh, did mommy go to visit your school the other day?

Yeah. And you gave me the grand tour, didn't you? Yeah. You showed me where you have your milk. Yeah. Uh, like snack time. You showed me the raisin zoo. Yeah, you showed me your draw. Yes. And can you say each uh, person in the class has an animal, don't they? Yeah. So you can tell what your things are, what's your animal?

Do you tell daddy? What's your animal? No. Daddy don't have an animal, are you? I don't. I don't know. What is your animal? What's your animal? I mean, daddy daddy's enough. One. You go to school? I don't go to school, but because Oh, you wanna ask his favorite animal? Yeah. Oh, my favorite animal is an otter. What's your favorite animal?

My favorite animal is a, um, a little monkey. Called a Mamat. What's your favorite animal, Lily? A giraffe. A giraffe. A giraffe. That's nice. I think Lily's gonna host the podcast now. Do you, any other questions you'd like to ask? Yeah. Okay. What other question would you like to ask? Um, I want to say, I read a book.

You want say that you read books. What's your favorite book? Um, I like read Domingos flamingo books. What pop book? I just tend, we redo you making it up. I just tend in you just pretending. We have books about flamingo. We have a lot of books. You've made up a book about a, a flamingo. Do you just talk about it?

You wanna talk about it? You just make it up about gum With my mouth. You just make it up. Oh, is that how you do it? Yeah. You make it up with your mouth? Yeah. I can tell what happens in the Flamingo book. Hmm. And he takes a ball away. He takes a ball away and the mouse takes it away and the mouse takes it away and he's gone back in his house.

Correct. And can you say, oh, what do you do in PE at school? Um, do you run around, do you do jumping, um, or do you do climbing? Um, climbing? I thought you said you did Climbing. Climbing. Is this why, uh, you fell over a couple of times? Yes. And you got a hole in your tights. Yes. You're very brave though. Tell him, did you tell the teacher, look, I look it can't see your feet pedal.

She's trying to show everyone her feet because they've got two plasters on that she's put on for decoration. They're beautiful feet. Can you say what you don't like about school? You don't like that you can't wear nail varnish? No, but I do want nail one. Yes. I know it's not fair, is it? No. And you don't like that you can't wear your jewelry like your necklace is?

What's that? I don't know what's under there. Pet, you have to have a look. What else shall we say into the microphone, shall we say? Does daddy normally take you to school? Mm. Yeah. Yeah. Do we walk? Yeah. And we see the polar bears. Yeah. Yes. Hold on. Alright, hold on. I'll hold on. Right. And who picks you up from school?

Mama and Lola. Mama and Lola pick you up, don't they? Yeah. Who they say? Oh my turn? Yes. Mama and Lola pick care. Lily up from school my time. We're Sharon. We're Sharon. We're doing really well. Sharon, do, what are you gonna say? Uh, do you like a Panda book? Oh, I, I'd love a panda book, I think for Christmas. Oh, you think I'd like a panda book for Christmas?

Yeah. Yeah. Maybe. Mommy. Yes. You what? Oh, my turn. What do you want me to say? You have, oh, you ask me a question. You've been very happy going into school, haven't you? Mm. Is The Princess and the Pea. Okay. What? What my favorite book. What's your favorite book? Manana. My favorite book is Zog. Okay. Is that a good choice? I just take him. You check it? It's working. I just look him. Oh, okay. What do you think it's gonna do? It's a hair bubble all over there. That is, it's good.

We're gonna take it to Disneyland. Oh, you took it when you were little, but you never wore it. 'cause you were a bit cheeky back then. Why? I don't know. You just didn't like it at the time? So this time we can take it with us and you can wear it. I dislike it. Yeah. I thought you did. Okay. What's your favorite house?

House? Yeah. What in the world or like where we live? Um, I mean, mean favorite in the world. In the world. Uh, I like. Uh, well, I know what you are like, you like Elsa's house, don't you? Yes. What's yours? What's your favorite house? Do I have to choose Out of Princess's or like a real house, like grandma and Granddad's house?

I mean, grandma now Grandma's house. Is that your favorite house? Yeah, I think, um, Diddy's house is my favorite house because it has Diddy and Robin. What's what's. House that day. Uh, this one where we live. But, but you have the two, three different ones. Oh, okay. With your own house. I like the holiday house when we went on holiday.

Have say what's, what's my one? What's your favorite house, Lily? Um, I like when I'm bang add. Oh, that's nice. Mommy's got a question. Are we doing this favorite thing? What is it? What's your favorite food? Lily? Ooh, peanut butter. Pee. You do. You do. The last two days, you've really liked peanut butter. What you also really like, it's a surprise crumble.

My favorite thing I've ever drawn is, Ooh, that picture of me, you daddy and Lola walking in Harrigan near those trees. Yeah. Oh yeah.

That's a good one. What's your favorite boring that day? Daddy's not very good at drawing. I have to tell you the, pretend if you're good at drawing. Oh, pretend I'm good at drawing. Yeah. Oh.

My favorite drawing is of Spider-Man. You did draw Spider-Man. Mm-hmm. Right. Lily, what's your favorite drawing there? Um, I like drawing my house. You drawn your house? Well, my house with me in it. Oh, did you do that at school? Yeah. Ah, 'cause you're doing all about where we live and our families. Mm. Was it a very good drawing?

Yeah. I saw your, um, full month. School was excellent. Yes. And you drew it on a boat? Yes. Your color monster was dressed as Moana. That to the foot. It was funny. The teacher said it was very good. I thought it was funny for you. It was. I liked it lot. Oh, you are very good at drawing. What's your favorite pit?

I mean, favorite boaty? Favorite boat. Yeah. I don't know many. I like the ones we went on Holiday Inn for Daddy's birthday. Oh. What's your favorite boat daddy? Um. A kayak. Yeah. What's your favorite? Um, I like Aaba. And you? A Moaba. Alright. Why don't you ask, what's your favorite ice cream flavor? Blue. Blue is yours?

Or on your head. That's what you say at school, don't you? So when they want everybody to be quiet and do something and they say, everybody put your hands on your head, don't they? That's when you have to tidy up, isn't it? Yeah. I've got to witness this at school. Oh, did you? Yeah. Does it work? Does everyone follow it?

Does everybody does it very I, everybody tidies up very nicely. Yeah. I was asking what's your favorite? I thought we were talking about school. Oh. But I'm not talking that anymore. Oh, you don't anymore. You changing the topic. What's your favorite for your favorite toy? Ooh. Well, what, what is your favorite toy?

What's your favorite toy? Um, well, we don't really have many. Oh, I do, um, probably

see my, all my toys have become Your toys is the problem, Lily. Oh, okay. Of many of my own, but I used to like stitch sticks. Oh, okay. What's your favorite toy? Daddy? Hmm.

Well, daddy's toy used to be Lego. Lego, but now Lily plays with it. Okay. What's your favorite Lily? Um, I like playing with dolls. With dolls. You do like playing with dolls? For How many dolls do you have? Lots. How many? We've got two. Cinderellas. Yes. Two ELs. Two ELs. Two s. Yeah. I think three honors. You might have three, I think.

Think downstairs. We do. No, you're right. You do three honors. Yes. You've got two ounces, three honors. Two Cinderellas and then, and, uh, one Prince, prince Charming. Then, then, then two Barbies, then one, then, then one. One Moana. One Moana. Oh yeah. Now you've got two Moana. Yes. 11. And you've got the New Mermaid you got from the charity shop.

Yeah. And we What's your favorite film? My favorite film? Yeah. Oh, ever. Or of the Disney film? Um, out of Disney film. My favorite Disney film is. Uh, mommy likes Mulan. Okay. What's your favorite film? Daddy likes, you know, Wally with the robot? Yeah. Yeah. And Eva? Yeah. Yeah. What's your favorite film, Lily? Um, I like.

AA film. Youa is good film. And you liked the new speech, didn't you? Yes. You prefer that to Elsa film? Yeah. Huh? I like Eler. Don't hit the microphone, Elsa. Yes, El Alpha. Don't hit the mic's. Hold it. Hold those bits. Ah, I know. It's very exciting 'cause you've never been allowed to be in this before. El El. I think it's gonna have to be a special episode.

Yeah. And what color is Daddy's? Daddy's phone is red. And what's your pretend phone color? Um, yours is pink, pink. Is that your favorite color? Pink? Yeah, if pink that, but my favorite is blue. During that week, we're gonna go to a chocolate thing where we get to make chocolate. Oh man. I think somebody's getting silly. Not that they haven't been silly the whole time.

So you know how his name looks like you know what your name looks like, and you even managed to get spell Lola's name, didn't you?

Yeah. Can you say, how do you spell your name? EE la la. Correct. And what does Mama begin with? Ma? And what does well yours. Yours is confusing. What does Baba begin with? Correct. See, you're very clever. Oh man. Oh man. Why is this come back? I, we went on the stop saying this for a wrong time, but time said, oh man, it is not funny.

We don't say, oh man. Old man. Can you tell him that is daddy old man? What? Are you old? Oh, daddy's an old man. Daddy's an old man. Old man, isn't he? Excuse me. Who? Who are you calling? Yes. What happens in assembly? Can you tell me? I dunno. You've been to them. You must, oh, do you all go and sit down?

Is he the head teacher of the assembly? Yeah, but my look is not a spider. Oh wow. It's not so spiders around here are lots of spiders around here. I spider. You do like spiders, but I don't. You don't like big ones? You like little ones? Oh yeah. They're only little. Giving away to everyone. We record in the attic with all despite me.
